Follow-up Meeting:  What is Sustainable Development???  What can it do for me and for Sheffield? BY INVITATION only for workshop participants once again very generously hosted by DLA Piper LLP Sheffield office, 1 St Paul’s Place, Sheffield S1 2JX (click post code for maplink)  @ 12.15pm – 2.00pm on Tuesday 15th June 2010. Invitation for up to 30 people.

  • Identify major issues affecting Sheffield for a series of New Economics Foundation’s events
  • Review Sustainable Development workshop outcomes
  • Decide what to do next
  • Present our Plans and Annual Report

At our workshop, we discussed broad ranging issues which affect Sheffield communities and which are major issues in their own right:

  • planning, retail giant’s manipulation of planning regulations and its effect on small traders.
  • transport, buses, regulation, congestion charging and the use of parking to incentivise more constructive
  • housing, fuel consumption, charging, fuel poverty and incentivising reduced fuel consumption
  • practices surrounding food, food waste, cooking, the connection between food and animal husbandry

As we only have place for 30 people, we will apply our cancellation policy of £15 for no-shows and people turning up without a reserved place.

8th April 2010:  What is Sustainable Development???  What can it do for me and for Sheffield? Generously hosted by the Sheffield office of DLA Piper LLP.  Professor Dave Applebaum from the University of Sheffield did a great job of facilitating our workshop on making Sheffield sustainable with:

October 2009: Climatewalk facilitated by Perry Walker from New Economics Foundation was hosted by DLA Piper LLPs Sheffield Office with keynote speaker Professor Shaun Quegan, Director, Centre for Terrestrial Carbon Dynamics, University of Sheffield, Andy Nolan, Director Sustainable Development, Sheffield City Council and Panni Poh Yoke Loh, MA, international artist and environmentalist.

September 2008, DLA Piper LLP, global law firm’s Sheffield Office hosted our Youth Crime Workshop facilitated by Perry Walker, Head of Democracy & Participation at leading London think tank, New Economics Foundation.

June 2008 Open Planning Meeting our future plans, activities and annual report at Sheffield Hallam University.  Plus Darryl Dawson of award-winning PR Consultancy Firm, Connexions PR spoke about the value of Unique Selling Points for fund-raising and Dave Briggs who spoke on the value of social-networking tools to increase voluntary sector capacity .

October 2007 Event “Democratic Dictatorship?” with guest speaker Nick Clegg, MP, the Liberal Democrat Party Leader was a resounding success and we received excellent feedback from everyone. We also received some very helpful suggestions on how we could meet your needs which we will be introducing.

Donations & Standard Charge

Voluntary Suggested Donation of £1 payable at the meeting to help meet our core costs.

Donations via Paypal to help with our core running costs are always very greatly appreciated which helps with our insurance premium which is nearly £35 a month,  communications and not least volunteer expenses.

Although our public events and meetings are FREE for pre-booked places, we apply a standard charge of £15 for people without a confirmed booked place or who book and dont turn up.  We are therefore able to provide accurate numbers, avoid waste so that our host, DLA Piper LLP optimises their Corporate Social Responsibility budget effectively.
